ABSTRACT: PT Natarang Mining is a company in underground gold mining that applies sublevel open stoping method. To maximize production capacity, a new open stope will dig at drift west level 4 with 165 m depth. This research is conducted to evaluate the stability of stope and to optimalize stop dimension at location by using Mathews Stability Graph and MRMR (Laubscher and Jacovec, 2001). This method was chosen because of the determination of parameter is adjusted with underground mining condition such as blasting effect, induced stress, weathering, water condition and joint orientation. Based on MRMR empirical approach and Mathews Stability Graph, drift west location is on stable condition with hydraulic radius value of 1.16 m. Dimension optimization at planning stage can be done by maximizing hydraulic radius value with stope height planned at 50 m. Then, Based on MRMR empirical approach, stope optimal length at stable condition is 39 m on hangingwall and 28 m on vein. While by using Mathews Stability Graph optimal length is obtained at 15 m on hangingwall and 12.5 m on vein.
